The Regulation of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine in Ontario Acupuncture Regulation and Laws in Ontario

Total Wellness Centre supports the proper regulation of acupuncture and traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in Ontario. Over the course of many years in Ontario, the government, in consultation with the community, has worked to regulate Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese medicine in Ontario. Just like in other jurisdictions such as British Columbia, Ontario now has a new law, the Traditional Chinese Medicine Act, which purports to regulate clinics and practitioners in Ontario.

This new law will mean the quality of care will inevitably rise. A minimum educational standard has been proposed, as have been hygiene and documentation standards. Practitioners may now call themselves Doctors of Traditional Chinese medicine. Along with the title of Doctor, comes the privilege of communicating a diagnosis and of course ultimately treating the patient. In addition, Traditional Chinese medical doctors now fall under the Regulated Health Professions Act, along with other health professionals.

Total Wellness Centre supports any steps the government takes to increase the quality of patient care in our great profession.
