Total Wellness Centre is excited to offer its new and existing clients private Pilates sessions and small group classes, onsite at our clinic.
Pilates was developed in the 1920s by Joseph H. Pilates. The Pilates Method is an exercise system focused on improving flexibility and strength for the total body without building bulk. Not surprisingly, some of the first people to use the Pilates Method were dancers such as Martha Graham and George Balanchine.
The Pilates Method is not just exercise, however. It is a series of controlled movements engaging your body and mind, performed either on a floor mat or using equipment, and supervised by extensively trained teachers. After a regular Pilate’s regimen, joint mobility will increase, the abdomen and core muscles will be much more toned, overall fitness levels will improve, as will the body's circulation.

Because Pilates are gentle exercises without a lot of bouncing around or muscular stress, it’s recommended for those seeking rehabilitation through physical therapy. It’s also considered a good workout for the elderly and overweight because there’s no jumping or lifting involved. Those afflicted with arthritis also appreciate Pilates’ as it helps to reduce stiffness in the muscles. Since it promotes good posture, it assists in the prevention of osteoporosis. Athletes, from beginner to high caliber will also benefit from Pilates.
Prenatal and Postnatal
Pilates
Pilates pregnancy exercises are one of the most suitable exercises during
pregnancy. Many people use Pilates to increase their flexibility
and muscle tone.
Pilates strengthens the muscles that are in and around the back and abdomen.
Consequently,
Pilates is
perfect during pregnancy to help prevent back pain and ease the burden
associated with carrying extra weight. Pilages is also ideal for helping
women regain their shape after pregnancy as it especially provides results
in the abdominal area. Pilates is
a great head-to-toe workout, improving not only your body but also your
mind.
