Angela Xiao Chun Fu

Fu Sheng Long
Fu Sheng Long, Angela's father, practicing Fu Style Tai Chi.

Angela Xiao Chun Fu is the clinical director for Total Wellness Centre. Angela's family developed the Fu style Bagua (Fu Zhensong (mixed style), see General geographical distribution of Baguazhang styles in China), Tai Chi and other internal 'Kung Fu' martial arts. As a fourth generation internal martial artist, she understands Eastern philosophy and medicine. Angela is now teaching the fifth generation, her son, to live the lifestyle associated with traditional Chinese medicine; a balanced life including a good diet, exercise, good education, support of friends and family, and of course Tai Chi.

In ancient times, those that practiced martial arts in China learned, out of necessity, techniques to heal quickly and heal completely. Going to battle, or defending one's village was not possible if wounds, illness, malnutrition or other problems constantly plagued the protectors. Out of this need, practitioners of Kung Fu, particularly Tai Chi and Bagua, learned to practice traditional Chinese medicine in addition to their martial art.

Fu Zheng Song
Angela's Great Grandfather, Fu Zhen Song, practicing with large sword.

In more modern times, those that practice martial arts as a way of life have continued to integrate facets of traditional Chinese medicine into their lives. Healing from injury, the common cold or flu for example, and maintaining optimal health will always be relevant to those that practice martial arts, as well as the general public.

Moving to Canada in her mid-teens, Angela adapted to Western life, learning about Canadian culture. Due in part to Angela's Eastern and Western background, and of course her family history in martial arts, she is uniquely able to bring the strengths from the Far East and the West together.

Fu Wing Fay
Angela's Grandfather, Fu Wing Fay (Fu Yong Hui), teaching members of his village Bagua stances.

Angela believes teaching is a very important part of martial arts. Taught from a very young age by her family, she knows there is a duty among martial artists to teach the members of the community how to achieve optimal health and live as well as you can. She believes you are only as healthy as your fellow villagers. Angela's experiences and beliefs have harmoniously joined to help shape Total Wellness Centre.

In addition to directing Total Wellness Centre, Angela practices paramedical esthetics with derma health and laser clinic, which operates from the same location.
